ARTISTS
Gordon Harding
For the last twenty five years, Gordon Harding has produced surprisingly amazing art. A style generally called Art brut. The idea of "Art Brut" appeared around 1945. Its conception is generally attributed to the French painter Jean Dubuffet who meant by the term "works executed by those immune to artistic culture in which imitation has no role; in which their creators take all […] from their own individuality and not from the base of classical art or stylish trends". One can understand from this definition that practitioners of "Art Brut" are individuals who have a social status removed from the constraints of cultural conditioning. (www.the-artists.org)Harding grew up in Danville Quebec and has traveled throughout the world with his guardians and family. The artist, Gordon Harding will be often present at the gallery. The invitation is open to all and the viewing is free.
Gabriel Brown
Curious about everything, films, visual art, painting, sculpture and design, with an appreciation for literature and extreme sports, Gabriel Brown has been lost in a very culturally rich environment since he began his studies. He finished with honours from the Selwyn House School in Montreal. At Dawson College, he completed a degree in the “Creative Arts” program in 2000. He then left for Ontario to pursue a degree in History from the University of Western Ontario which he accomplished in 2004. He then waited two years before entering the professional realm. He began as an artistic director for the film Misbehavior by ZGA FILMS, which was recorded in 35mm. In 2006, he directed his first feature film, The Upside, which is a love story that explores the themes of solitude and banality. Today, at La Galerie d’Art du Q has the privilege of displaying the pictorial works that have emerged from his various passions.
Georges Rebboh
Georges Rebboh has a bachelor of Visual Arts and Media of Concordia University. As a multidisciplinary artist, painer and performer he is characterised by a deconstructive approach to visual arts and performance. Among noteworthy performances are "Pastiche Barney" at Station C in Montreal 2005 and the collective project "Wow(!) c'est beau" at the Festival of Performances held at Galerie l'Écart, Rouyn Noranda in 2004. On several occasions he worked with the group "Varoum Varoum" (for example Galerie Espace, Montréal 2004) as well as musical projects with Les Georges Lenningrad. The strategies the artist employs evoke a reflection of our culture's meaning, of what it creates and what it lacks, of a possible space of freedom within society and culture. In the current exhibition at Art du Q the artist invites us to reflect the general space in which art takes place and is consumed as well as the relationship between artist and cultural subsidies.
